A series of enclosed gardens in a community centre in Dublin's East Wall area. We were involved in the gardens as part of the design team, lead by architects O'Donnell and Tuomey. The end result is a fabulous building which looks onto these open-air atriums from the inside. The intention was to create small, pristine pieces of woodland, as if the building had been superimposed upon them. Using predominantly native plants, we used old logs and boulders in a Wicklow forest to bring character to the new plantings.

Native plants such as Woodruff, Sedges and Foxgloves around an ancient stump salvaged from a Wicklow forest.

A section of the plan for the Sean O'Casey Community Centre using a variety of drawing media.

An example of a planting / layout plan for one of the courtyard gardens.

One of the larger spaces in the Community Centre approximately one year after planting.

A nice blurring between indoors and outdoors.
