About Howbert & Mays Gardens

Howbert & Mays was established by Anthea Howbert & Tig Mays in 2002. Both are trained horticulturists, hands-on gardeners and experienced garden designers, who opened their Monkstown shop in 2012. They met while training in the prestigious Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, and have been partners in business and life ever since. They are assisted in their business by a team of more than 20 experienced horticulturists, landscape architects and plant experts.

Howbert & Mays consists of four very different plant and garden shops, as well as one garden webshop. Plants are chosen that will will thrive in the Irish climate, and come from Irish growers wherever possible. Tools are selected to be functional, long lasting and reliable, frequently made by long-established manufacturers. Fertilisers and growing aids are organic and nature-based. Since setting up shop in Monkstown in 2012, no chemical weedkillers, fungicides or fertilisers have been stocked.Other specialities include indoor plants and pots, with perhaps the widest selection in the country. The new Clare Street shop in Dublin city centre has an indoor focus, including fine art, furniture and indoor furnishings. Our website displays only a small portion of what we have in stock, so if you're a garden lover, or looking to buy plants, tools or something special, please drop into one of our shops.

Right in the heart of Monkstown, there are plenty of other great shops, cafés and restaurants in our neighbourhood. Parking can be difficult, but just drive around the block and you're sure to find a spot quickly. Read more about Monkstown...
