Chilean lantern tree
A most unusual evergreen shrub or small tree, most noticed and appreciated when in flower. It has dark red waxy flowers in spring and summer, held against glossy green foliage. It will grow in all but the coldest parts of Ireland and is not recommended for colder inland areas. A fairly resilient plant for most situations: it has good seaside tolerance too. Our hardy plants are grown in Ireland. It prefers neutral to acid soil, moist and well-drained. Vigorous plants, 50-60 cms tall, in a 3 litre container.
