Paulownia tomentosa

Foxglove tree

Price: €4.50
Current stock: 11

This is a most unusual tree, and a good tree for the city or suburban garden. With very large leaves, it can be cut down regularly and be treated as a foliage plant and used at the back of borders for its 'architectural' leaves. Alternatively, it can grow to be a stately, medium-large sized tree which has the unusual dinstinction of pale-lilac foxglove-like flowers - it doesn't always flower in this climate. Paulownia are tolerant of many soils, including drier sites. Very hardy - it is native to central China with very freezing conditions. However, it does prefer some shelter from strong winds. To grow as a foliage plant, cut down in winter to near ground level. Young plants in small 9cms pots.
