The biggest of all Rhododendrons, known as the 'Tree rhododendron', its red flower is the national flower of Nepal. An evergreen tree or large shrub, it has masses of red flowers in spring. Suitable for a woodland garden with plenty of organic matter in the soil, it grows well near or under trees in moist, well-drained, acidic soil. It thrives in many locations in Ireland and can be seen flourishing in gardens such as Kilmacurragh, Co Wicklow. 3L pot, 30-40cm plant.
