Scots' pine is a vigorous, tough and attractive native evergreen tree. One of only three conifers native to Ireland (along with Juniper and Yew), Scots' pine is fast-growing and hardy, developing a lovely russet-red bark as it matures. It ultimately loses its lower branches to develop a light, high canopy. Perfect as a windbreak, in a mixed native woodland or as part of a native hedgrow, where it should not be clipped. Requires well-drained soil and full sun. Makes a good shelter-belt plant, particularly if combined with other fast-growing native trees such as Alder. 2-3ft tall plants in 3-5L pots.
