This is probably the hardiest, easiest-to-grow bamboo for the Irish climate, even near the sea or in a windy spot. Taller, more substantial plants (150-180cm) than our smaller 5 litre plants. This bamboo species makes an excellent an effective screening plant. This trouble-free bamboo has green stems and narrow green leaves. Although vigorous, this plant is clump-forming rather than spreading (i.e. with underground runners). It makes a fast-growing screen or specimen and is great for creating privacy quickly. It is particularly wind resistant and leaves show little signs of damage even after cold, drying winds. We have planted this plant only metres from the sea, and it has thrived there, unblemished, for many years. As with all bamboo, it requires moisture to establish, but is otherwise trouble-free. As a hedge / to create a screen for privacy, plant between 1.5 and 2 plants per metre. Canes are initially quite floppy, but will firm up after planting. Can grow to 350-400cms or more if in good location. Healthy, dense plants with numerouos canes, 170-180cm tall plants in a 12L container.
